After our awesome Thanksgiving in Managua, we rode south from Diriamba to Rivas, where Dave spent a month working at a hospital in 2006. We had plans to meet up with his engineer friend Francisco, along with other guys who worked at the hospital.
These guys (especially Francisco) planned a beach campout for the Friday night we were in town. They had camped out on this same beach when Dave was there before, but it was one of his favorite things he did in Nicaragua.
We drove about an hour and a half into the middle of nowhere to a small, mostly isolated beach on the Pacific Coast. What a treat! We arrived just in time to watch the sun set, ate dinner cooked over the fire, and fell asleep under the open sky with waves crashing near our camp site. We woke up to a beautiful sunrise, ate breakfast, and played in the water for most of the morning.
We went back to Rivas that afternoon and spent the night at Francisco’s house. It was such a blessing for us to have someone to connect with along our route in Nicaragua!
