We had a short stint in Honduras—it only took us two days to ride through. The views were spectacular–mountains all around. Fortunately, we didn’t have to do much climbing over those mountains. We’re not sure what we’re going to do when we have to climb a lot in this crazy heat!
Two incidents made Honduras memorable. One: we were stolen from for the first time. That probably sounds more serious than it really was. In all honesty, it was our own fault! We used the clothes line at our hotel Friday night instead of stringing up our own in the room, and sure enough, when we woke up Saturday morning, Dave’s SmartWool socks were gone. Fortunately, all the other clothes were still there. Unfortunately, those were his favorite pair of socks! We’re not sure why someone would actually want a pair of heavily used cycling socks (that probably were only somewhat clean), but we prayed a blessing over them anyway and asked the Lord to use them for His glory in the life of the person who stole them!
Secondly, about 90 percent of the children who saw us on the road yelled out “Gringo” as we rode past. I’m not sure how so many of them even saw us from where they were in the distance, but they sure loved yelling at us. It didn’t really bother us much, as we’ve grown accustomed to people whistling or staring at us anyway.
We enjoyed our short stay in Honduras, and on Sunday crossed the border into Nicaragua!
