We made our first two-wheeled border crossing on Saturday! We were glad to leave Guatemala and make it into El Salvador. It’s not much different here except for a few things:
1-The currency is US dollars, so it makes it easy for us to discern if something is cheap or not!
2-The hotels are slightly more expensive.
3-The motorcyclists are actually all wearing helmets.

Yes, those are the major differences. The heat hasn’t changed at all, and we’ve started waking up ridiculously early so we can get in the distance we need before noon, when the heat becomes unbearable.

Welcome to El Salvador!

On Sunday and Monday we rode along the rugged El Salvadoran Pacific coastline… the climbing was tough but the views were breathtaking! It’s great to be able to ride along and hear the waves crashing onto the beach. We would have loved to stop and spend a day, but we’re still trying to make up for the few days we got behind with our hospital visit in Escuintla.

Our first glimpse of the Pacific coast!

Not a bad view for the riding!

We ate breakfast on Monday with this sweet view of the beach.

Also interesting, within three hours of crossing the border, we had three people walk up to us and blatantly ask us to give them some money. This was disturbing, and not very promising for our time here. There people were not beggars sitting helplessly on the side of the road… in those situations we are more inclined to stop and talk and maybe buy some food or something to help the person. Nope, these people are just walking up to us and asking for money. “Give me a quarter,” or “Give me five dollars.” We are praying about how to best respond to these people in a way that would be most helpful to them and most glorifying to God.

We should cross into Honduras on Friday. We’ll only be there for a couple of days (Lord willing) before moving on into Nicaragua.

Oh and just for fun... yes, that is a herd of bulls coming down the road. (Dave is off the right). By the way, this is a major highway here! That old US school us (now used as a public transport bus here) had to wait and drive around these guys! Pretty great.
