Last Saturday we had another outing with Nora and Rolando, the directors of Guatemalensis (our school). We hiked up and around the dormant volcano of Santa Maria. On the other side is a fantastic lookout where you can see Santiaguito, an active volcano. No, there wasn’t lava spewing out everywhere (although we do think that would have been cool), but the volcano did release smoke and steam the whole time we watched. Definitely worth the two-hour hike to get there!

Our view of "el volcan" Santiaguito

In fact, the vistas were pretty great for the whole hike! You can barely see the top of Santa Maria peeking out above the clouds behind us.

We planted trees on our way back down!
